Prepping the Soul

Corvette god vs Our God

Ron Lindell Season 1 Episode 8

A few years ago while working on a KC mansion remodel, I had the pleasure of talking with a fellow Christian who was sold out for Christ Jesus. During lunches we would meet for the study of God’s Word and testimonials.

One testimony he shared with me was very interesting regarding earthly desires, gods on earth we forget can take us away from true worship from our faithful God.

The friend I met that year was very wealthy, although he had a problem.

My friend shared that he had a shiny red convertible Corvette which he loved until one day sitting at a red light he noticed his reflection from another vehicle. Upon seeing his reflection he sold his shiny red Corvette.  He went on to tell me that his Corvette was taking time from his relationship with Jesus.  He told me that when he drove down streets people also loved his car and he didn’t want his image to be marred. He felt imperfections in his heart while driving his red Corvette.

My friend told me that he then started to notice his whole life including his beautiful home in a prestigious part of the city was his other god which took time from Jesus.

Through prayer he and his wife decided to use their home as a free place to stay for missionaries and pastors traveling to KC.

Throughout that summer he was getting his life in order and became a giver of his blessings from God.

My wife and I are originally from Central Nebraska. Our dream was to have a huge home in the country and six children. Oh, I can’t forget the shiny Mercedes Benz and maybe a Rolls Royce for a hobby car.

While we were students in Bible college we had the great privilege to live in a huge Colorado Springs estate as care takers.  The main house was about 15,000 square feet with an inddor pool under the 1200 square foot master bedroom. Lorrie and I lived in the 1200 squarefoot one bedroom pool house. One of the next door neighbors had a Prevost Motor Coach and matching trailer to pull their luxury automobile.  Another neighbor down the street was a famous artist who later took his own life due to miserable relationships with family.

We lost our desire for great wealth. Non Christian people with great wealth live miserable lives. They had so much wealth and tried to please all other wealthy people they lost who they were as individuals.

After Bible college we did church planting projects and pastored a small church.

As pastors of a small church we earned $200 per week plus a home to live in. We struggled financially.

Throughout life we learned that wealth is not a bad thing as long as one has Jesus as First Priority.

We are to love God with our whole hearts, minds and souls.

When God gives Christians wealth we need to give, give and give.

Even if our wealth is $200 per week. Stay God focused.

Throughout Scriptures God blesses those who are in relationship with Him.

The Widow’s Offering in Mark 12:41-43

41Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. 42But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents.

43Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury th
